Sonja Tarnay Education Fund

Sonja Tarnay

Sonja Tarnay was born in Oslo, Norway, and graduated from Bennington College, Vermont. She was a talented pianist who was instrumental in starting the classical music performances that have evolved into the Sun Valley Summer Symphony. She had a shop in the Sun Valley Mall for many years where she made women's clothing of her own design, to order. She also had a thriving business in Hailey, The Quilt Barn, where she carried antique and new quilts, also of her own design. She saw potential in a large older home in Hailey, which she ultimately turned into the gracious bed and breakfast, The Ellsworth Inn.
Through these many passions and enterprises, Sonja was a supportive and loving mentor for all young people who wanted the arts in their lives. We are pleased and honored to give this scholarship in her name.
